Sung-En Chi: A Prayer for Taiwan｜為台灣祈禱（台灣民謠：天黑黑／馬林巴木琴）

《為台灣祈禱》是一首木琴獨奏曲。

我一直想創作一首與台灣文化相關的曲子，而這次的靈感不僅來自於台灣民謠《天黑黑》。創作初期，我想到了左手低音的一個音型。經過反覆思考與挑選，我發現這個音型與《天黑黑》的旋律非常契合。於是，我決定以這首台語歌《天黑黑》作為創作的基礎，進一步發展出其他旋律與樂段。 《天黑黑》的歌詞講述了台灣早期農村生活的趣味：天色漸暗，彷彿要下雨了，阿公拿著鋤頭挖芋頭，挖著挖著，竟挖到一隻泥鰍。阿公和阿嬤因為要如何烹煮泥鰍而起了爭執，最後甚至打破了鍋子。這首歌反映了早期台灣社會的簡樸與知足常樂。

《A Prayer for Taiwan》is a solo marimba piece. I have always wanted to compose a piece related to Taiwanese culture, and this time, my inspiration came from the Taiwanese folk song "TI-O-O." In the early stages of composition, I conceived a bass pattern for the left hand. After contemplation and selection, I found this pattern to be highly compatible with the melody of "TI-O-O." Thus, I decided to use this Taiwanese folk song as the foundation for my composition, further developing additional melodies and sections from it. The lyrics of "TI-O-O" depict the simple pleasures of early rural life in Taiwan: as night falls and it looks like rain is imminent, a grandfather takes his hoe to dig up taro. While digging, he unexpectedly finds a loach. The grandfather and grandmother then argue over how to cook the loach, ultimately breaking the pot. This song reflects the simplicity and contentment of early Taiwanese society.
